Author Commentary:
Different name, more great stuff. Just as in 2008, I put this out with Greg Spira and contributions from many fine writers who know their Mets. Among my favorites:
--Greg Spira’s piece on Santana’s 2008 season and how it matches up with the greatest Mets season ever by a pitcher.
--Stats of every conceivable type for the regulars on the team, as well as a writeup of each guy, including things like how often a pitcher threw fastballs and in what counts, and where batters hit the ball—Luis Castillo hit 2.6 percent of balls to right field batting left in ’08. Yech!
--Mets by the Numbers mastermind Jon Springer on Jerry Manuel getting a shot at this thing from Opening Day in ’09.
--Greg W. Prince of Faith and Fear in Flushing fame on the ’69 Mets.
--Prolific author Dan Schlossberg on the 25th anni of the 1984 Mets, plus my talk with Keith Hernandez on that franchise-changing club.
--Mets Inside Pitcher Andy Esposito reflects on the other first years at past Mets stadiums.
--In-depth coverage of the Mets minors from Metsblogger Toby Hyde.
--Plus looks ahead to Citi Field, looks back at Shea, and thumbnails, photos and schedules of every minor league team in the U.S.
--And other stuff that can’t be fit in this space written by smart people, but certainly worth perusing in a magazine you’ll read all season long.
