Call me
traitor or Benedict Arnold—although keep in mind Arnold did win several key
battles for the Continental Army before he went to the dark side to keep his hot
socialite wife in the style she was accustomed—but I really like doing these
Numbers books and the Mets book has already been written. I had done a lot of
research on Cubs numbers when I was shopping Mets by the Numbers earlier this
decade and when I heard that Al Yellon and Kasey Ignarski were seeking a book
deal, I knew the market was there for one book on the subject, so we formed an
alliance and had a good time putting this together and looking at baseball cards
and cracking a few jokes at Cubby expense. There may be more books on more teams
in the future. It’s a business opportunity and a chance to have fun. And know I
would never sell out my team or my country—even for a babe. For shame, General
Arnold.
